Dear Parents,

This week, Miss Yoxall and I attended an E Safety Training Day at Cheshire Constabulary in Winsford. Two Year 5 pupils accompanied us and following their training, they have taken on the role of Infant & Junior E Safety Officer for this academic year. This is such an important issue for our young pupils - to ensure that they are able to use the internet wisely and to understand how and whom to ask for help if it is required. Our E Safety Officers will assist staff in keeping online safety at the forefront of the children’s minds.

Harvest Festival
We are holding our annual Harvest Festival Assembly on Tues. 26th September and traditionally, on this occasion, we ask the children to bring in Harvest gifts, which are subsequently distributed to local charities. If you would like to contribute, there is a letter on the LETTERS page of the website - kingsij.co.uk that suggests the food items which are most helpful to the charities. Thank you for your support.

Year 2 Visit to Macclesfield Heritage Centre

On Tuesday 19th September, Year 2 had a super day at the Heritage Centre. The children dressed up as Victorian children and visited the Victorian Sunday school classroom and had an old-fashioned lesson. The teacher was very strict and had to be called ‘Ma’am’. Some children wore a dunce’s hat but no one was naughty enough to receive the cane! Year 2 also had a chance to see what it was like to live in a poor Victorian house, 7 children shared a bed, bread and dripping for dinner and baths in front of the fire. In the afternoon, we learnt about silk, the material that made Macclesfield famous, and we were taught how to weave material.

Roaming Roman Chester
Last Friday, Year 4 went to explore the Roman remains in Chester. Their visit involved sessions in the Grosvenor Museum looking at Roman food, bath houses and past times and trying on some replica Roman armour and costumes. Pupils toured two galleries, answering questions on Roman life and identifying facts from architectural evidence. The highlight of the day was when the children dressed as legionaries and were marched through the streets of Chester to the remains of the Diva Fortress, where they practised battle formations.
